Antique Torrini Solid 18k Tri-Gold Button Covers Italian Bevetto (Patent) an Unbelievable Find | Rare
$1,500.00
$1,200.00
On a rarity factor on a scale from 1-10 as I often commentate on rarer items, these are a 10. Made by Torrini in 1800's antiquity Florence, Italy; these pieces appear to be the first iteration of the illusive Mens Button Cover. An idea bloomed from the Torrini family themselves. Torrini Manifattura Orafa is a family goldsmith artisan business that has its roots all the way back to the 15th century. In fact, some will argue, they were and still are the finest handcrafted goldsmith in the world, and they have a fantastic museum of their early work right in Florence. Although not all records are available, we know they were commissioned and worked with the brightest artists in Italy on very important projects, like the baptismal font in the Baptistry of nearby Siena. Although these button covers were a newer concept of antiquity, different than cufflinks but serve a similar purpose, they seem to have been produced in extremely small quantities by hand at the Torrini workshop. Many antiquity specialists including myself, believe that these were difficult to make, thereby expensive and reserved for highly respected figures, even the Pontiff himself (that is speculation). Properly hallmarked with both the old Torrini Family Hallmark and .750 in gold purity. Now, here is the most awesome thing about these button covers. They are done in blended tri-gold. Something that is very difficult to accomplish by hand. We have yellow, rose (somewhat pink) and white with a maze decoration. They weigh approximately 7 grams and are 15mm in diameter. They are solid gold. Please note that I've tried these on several buttons and they fit on most but not all; so please keep that in mind. Some, like the Gap and Banana Republic uses slightly larger shirt buttons that others do not, this is one example of when they may not fit; However, I'm sure you will be pleased to wear them on all your dress shirts that are standard sized buttons. In one of my pictures, you can see the cover over the button which has already closed up the sleeve. These really cannot disappoint, they are stunning, historical, and at a very attractive price. They still sell these today bearing the old Torrini trademark (same as on these) seen here: Torrini

Vintage 1941 WII Waltham Premier Vanguard 23 Jewel Railroad Pocket Watch Size 16S
$850.00
$745.00
A very nice Waltham Premier Vanguard 23 Jewels railroad grade pocket watch. This watch probably saw actual railroad service based on condition. Lever set. This watch falls in around good condition with some small of dings and dents as expected from a carried pocket watch of this age. Watch runs great and everything functions exactly as it should. Keeps excellent time. 23 jeweled railroad watches are highly desirable and are rising in price due to a fairly low supply on the market (compared to 21 jewels) and high demand.
SOLD - Rare Hampden Grand Dueber Size 18s 17 Jewel Adjusted Chronometer Grade Pocket Watch
$600.00
$525.00
Sold out
A size 18s is harder to find by any watch manufacturer. This case is over 60mm in diameter and quite thick and heavy. Here we have a stunning Grand Dueber Model 1 housed in a classic and large silveroid case. There is little known about these size watches and why they were made. In fact, many pocket watch size charts don't even recognize them. From my research, these were extremely low production and made for the purpose of use on a ship, vessel or boat. Their bulk and sturdiness made them especially suitable for this use. This piece is in very well preserved condition with only a slight chip on the original thick glass crystal at around 12 o'clock being its only noticeable flaw. Like all our Chronometer grade watches, the dial is perfect and has no cracks or hairlines. The watch is running within Chronometer specs and was just overhauled. The serial number dates this to about 1910. Both the obverse and reverse case components are screw down; and based on the threading and how tightly closed this watch can get, I assume it was made to resist water and moisture to a high degree. What makes this piece even rarer, it is stem set instead of lever set - something you usually see on dress pocket watches of this period - but this is surely a utilitarian piece. A logical reason for this would be to keep the watch tightly intact for water resistance not having to open it to set; while its large crown provides extra protection for a stem set watch. Very rare indeed, this would make a wonderful addition to any collection or a gift for a loved one.
SOLD - Vacheron & Constantin Military Chronograph WWI Army Corps of Engineers Very Rare
$4,325.00
$3,995.00
Sold out
Beautiful Vacheron & Constantin military chronograph for sale from World War I. This pocket watch was part of an order of 5,000 watches in which only 3,289 total watches delivered that the United States Army Corps of Engineers commissioned from Vacheron & Constantin. The watches had to be made of 900 fine silver, have white dials, have luminous hands and numerals, and keep time within 30 seconds per week. The army ordered these in 1918 and accepted shipments from Vacheron until late 1919. With the later serial number of this piece (2717) and the cathedral style hands, this piece was made at the later end of the run, most likely 1919. The hands still have almost all of their radium lume, but the radium has dissipated over time off several of the hour numerals on the dial; which is not uncommon for pieces that actually saw service use, which this one clearly did. This pocket watch is a single button chronograph without a minute counter, so it tracks only 60 second increments. The button on top of the winding crown starts, stops, and resets the chronograph. The lever to left of the crown is depressed in order to set the time. All the functions of the watch are working properly, and it is keeping time very well.
The case of this pocket watch is 900 fine silver and in excellent condition. The dial is also very clean apart from the dissipated lume on the numerals - no hairlines or cracks. In many cases you find this watch with all its lume gone and in most cases incorrect replacement hands due to the fear of the radioactivity of the lume used at the time. Of course, any type of radioactive material on this watch is no longer radioactive due to the age and posed no risk. The hands still have nearly all their lume and still have a blue hue to them. The case number is 241034, the movement number is 384852, and the movement is a 20-jewel movement with a straight line lever escapement and a 19 lignes size. Very high end column wheel chronograph made in-house by Vacheron. The earlier serial numbers as pointed out in many studies of this watch were likely outsourced to Nardin because V&C was not prepared for such a large order. This piece is a true V&C movement. There is high-end gold gilding on this entire movement, not specified as a requirement of the order, but a very expensive nice touch by Vacheron. Quite nice, this watch will certainly give you bragging rights. Appraised values for this rare bird with all its original parts, I've seen up to $20k in mint condition by a couple certain high-end auction houses. While others that have been modified through the years can be had for $2-3k. This piece is all original and in excellent condition to boot which is extremely hard to find.
The pocket watch chronograph measures 52 mm wide, 65 mm from the crown to the bottom, and 14.5 mm thick.
The document in the pictures details the order for the time only version of this. So they ordered both the chronographs and time only pieces of similar specs. I've not been able to find the doc copy of the chronograph order. If anyone out there has it feel free to send it to me. Thanks!

SOLD - Antique Railroad 18s 21J Rockford King Edward Pocket Watch - Rarest 10/10 on a 10 pt. Scale; 350 Total Production
$2,500.00
$1,995.00
Sold out
Up for sale is a rare beautiful 18s antique railroad 21 Jewels model with 6 Adjustments, the highest grade Rockford King Edward Pocket Watch made in near mint beautiful condition. Plymouth Watch Company is a private label by the way, that was commissioned to a few American manufacturers, including Illinois and Rockford. Commissioned by Sears Roebuck & Company, who for a very short period of time private labeled other watch companies pocket watches as their own Plymouth Watch Co. Back when Sears & Roebuck was organized, they aimed to be known for supplying the utmost quality and the only way to do that with pocket watches, just like private label high-end jewelers, was to call upon the best American watch companies at the time. Shortly later, they abandoned American watches for Swiss imports touting better quality. But we all know that wasn't really true across the board and many of their Swiss imports after they dropped the Plymouth line were average at best. This is one of only a handful of the rarest American Railroad Grade Pocket Watches ever produced by Rockford as Plymouth Watch Co. In fact, in the beginning of the Rockford Watch Co.; their entire business model was built around private label high end pocket watches. Oddly, the railroad companies must have really took to the railroad grade watches as three major rails picked Rockford as their official pocket watch instead of some of the more common manufacturers. Heavily Engraved Gold Filled Case. The movement marked "King Edward", "RG" (Railroad Grade) and has a serial number 540171 which dates it to be manufactured in 1899 not long after the organization of Rockford in 1874 and Sears in 1886. The double sunk glass crystal, enamel dial, hands and movement are in immaculate mint condition – please see the pictures. The case overall is in excellent crisp near mint condition with very little to no signs of wear. There are some small scratches around the crown where the exposed old screw in design to keep the crown in place which is slightly loose. A new screw can be put in to completely tighten it; however, I prefer to keep everything original. This was Rockford's first design moving away from a key wind pocket watch, which are the first watches they started to produce in 1875. Ironically, it's just like a key wind watch with the crown stem design acting and looking must like a key and the stem held in place by a tiny screw. The watch size is 18 with 21 screwed in ruby jewels in raised gold settings, gold balance screws. It's stem wind (first design from the old key wind) and lever set, adjusted to 6 positions. The watch was recently serviced and keeping an excellent time. If you collect railroad watches or fascinated with rare pocket watches, you must have this one. You will likely never see it again with so little made and in this condition. This is definitely a railroad pocket watch collectors piece I wouldn't wear.

SOLD - Vacheron & Constantin Military Chronometer WWI Army Corps of Engineers Very Rare
$4,500.00
$3,995.00
Sold out
Stunning Vacheron & Constantin military chronometer for sale from World War I. This pocket watch was part of an order of 2,000 watches in which an unknown total of the order was delivered that the United States Army Corps of Engineers commissioned from Vacheron & Constantin. The watches had to be made of 900 fine silver, have white dials, have luminous hands and numerals, and keep time within 30 seconds per week. The army ordered these in 1918 and accepted shipments from Vacheron until late 1919. This order was in conjunction with the order for the big brother of this watch, the chronograph. Although the chronograph may be the big brother being a more complicated and expensive watch to make; the chronometer version (this watch) is much more rare with little survivors found in original condition like ours. With the later serial number of this piece (11100) and the cathedral style hands, this piece was made at the middle/later end of the run, most likely 1919. Even better, V&C, not being prepared for this large order, outsourced the earlier pieced to Nardin; but this is a true V&C movement. The hands still have almost all of their radium lume, some of the radium has dissipated over time off some of the hour numerals on the dial; which is not uncommon for pieces that actually saw service use, which this one clearly did. However, the dial is near perfect with very little loss of lume material.
The case of this pocket watch is 900 fine silver and in excellent condition. The dial is also very clean apart from small amounts of dissipated lume on the numerals - no hairlines or cracks. In many cases you find this watch with all its lume gone and in most cases incorrect replacement hands due to the fear of the radioactivity of the lume used at the time. Actually, in most cases, you don't find this watch at all. It is very illusive compared to the chronograph version. Of course, any type of radioactive material on this watch is no longer radioactive due to the age and pose no risk. The hands still have nearly all their lume and still have a blue hue to them. The movement is a 20-jewel movement with a straight line lever escapement and a 19 lignes size. There is high-end gold gilding on this entire movement, not specified as a requirement of the order, but a very expensive nice touch by Vacheron. Quite nice, this watch will certainly give you bragging rights. This watch is difficult to value due to the shortage of comps; however, I gather it's worth more than the chronograph.
The pocket watch chronometer time only function measures 52 mm wide, 65 mm from the crown to the bottom, and 14.5 mm thick.
The document in the pictures details the order for the this time only version. So they ordered both the chronographs and time only pieces of similar specs and it is believed the orders came at the same time. There are many more examples of the chronograph version - so very little is known of this order. It appears very straight forward than what happened in the chronograph order and that V&C had no issue fulfilling this time only version as they did the chronograph; but did so in very few numbers made obvious by the lack of examples.
