I love this watch. First of all, although Canada's military is fairly small, the US military has a proud heritage of working side by side with Canada. And it's quite rare to see a USA made military watch for another country - in fact there were very few countries American watchmakers were allowed to export to during WWII. This Waltham grade 1617 has some cool specs. The movement production was fairly low but not considered rare; however, very few have official Canadian Armed Forces hallmarks which this watch does. Not only that, but this model was very high-end. The grade 1617 was originally designed to be a lower jeweled less expensive general military use watch, and the majority you find are 9 jewels unadjusted. Not the case with this one. This is the first of this movement I've ever seen made for the Canadian's Armed Forces and it features 17 jewels, USA made movement, is adjusted 3 positions and adjusted for temperature. This movement even appears better finished than it's less expensive counterparts. The pitch black dial is original and near perfect condition. The tritium lume is factory original and nearly all intact. The numerals are beyond awesome against the black backdrop with almost all lume intact and a handsome patina. The original lume on the hands also have even colored patina; although the hands have some small amount of lume missing from age and patina'd a different color - not a big deal, I think the contrast is smart looking. This is one of my favorite personal picks in our military watch collection. It is stem set and wound; recently serviced and keeping great time. I have the same watch for the British Military in the usual nine jewel movement.
