This classic Wittnauer Chronograph from the 1950's, is in remarkable condition, given its age. The original white triple register dial is near mint and features luminous Arabic numerals, an outer tachymeter track in blue, with red interval markers in between.
What is so striking about this particular design, however, is the balanced layout of the applications on the dial, the sleek and cutting dauphine hands in blued steel, and contrasting feuille hands in the sub dials.
Adding to the aesthetic appeal of this stainless steel Wittnauer, is the layout of the sub-registers themselves, at the 3,6 and 9'o clock position. Collectors will immediately recognize, that this design is usually reserved for chronographs with movements of the highest order.
The movement in this case is the famous manual wind Valjoux 72, which has been touted as one of the best chronograph movements ever made; Reason enough for Rolex to incorporate these into their legendary, vintage Daytona Chronographs, which are probably the most sought after of all chronographs, at any price!
Another aspect, which is unique to this watch, is the rounded and curved design of the stainless steel case, which measures 36 mm across, not including the crown. The lugs are curved downwards, which makes it very comfortable on the wrist.
The overall condition of this Wittnauer chronograph is near mint. Finding an example such as this one is a great opportunity to own one of the best and most beautiful timepieces ever made! In fact, if it doesn't sell soon it may find its way into my personal collection.
This rare Wittnauer Valjoux 72 comes on a new Hadley-Roma dark brown tan leather strap with white stitching and a silver buckle. This particular watch is one of those pieces that can be worn with any attire (depending on the strap) from casual to fine formal.
