SOLD - Vintage 1957 Hamilton "Surf" All Stainless Steel with Caliber 730
It was during this time, late fifties, early sixties, that Hamilton was at the pinnacle of their technical prowess, pulled on years of experience and innovation to produce some of their greatest movements and watches. This Hamilton Surf is no exception with caliber 730 manual wind highly decorated movements with beautiful Geneve Stripes. The name "Surf" implies that it can be used in the ocean of while surfing; although, I would never let a vintage watch be submerged in water - the are never really waterproof anymore. The watch was really most popular with military personnel, it seems. The dial is an original silver / cream color with original stainless steel hands with almost all the tritium lume intact. the indices on the dial are all applied 18k white gold. The Surf was not a widely popular model, I cannot find verifiable production numbers; but they are hard to find on the market and I cannot find any original period ads for it. These watches were meant to compete with luxury swiss sports watches from the same era of the likes of Rolex and Omega; with the exception, you'll note, that Hamilton finished their movements much higher than their Swiss sports watch counterparts. The case utilizing one of my favorite screw down designs, very dependable, yet very easy to take on and off for servicing. Speaking of servicing, this watch was just serviced and keeping great time. You'll be happy to know that many parts are available for the cal. 730 and you should be able to get this serviced for many years / generations to come. This watch is presented on an expensive dark brown vintage genuine alligator strap in excellent condition. Thank you.
