This particular Hampden Officially Certified Chronometer is very scarce and appears to had been made in limited numbers. It's very attractive both inside and out. The bright white porcelain dial is nearly perfect with only a tiny hairline right below 7 o'clock. The watch features high end craftsmanship such as a highly decorated movement, sucken seconds, adjustments and case construction to name a few. Although the archives do not specifically state that this was used during the war, I think it is safe to say it played some part in it. During WWI and WWII watch manufacturers focused mostly on making watches that were suitable for military use; and to find a chronometer of this period (WWI) is not easy. The only other fairly known chronometer of this era was made by Howard, and those were documented as wartime pocket watches - but many more were manufactured. The pocket watch is stem set and wound; stem must be in the up position for the hinged case to reveal the stunning movement. The case back has a crest design but no engravings. The pocket watch shows moderate wear on the caseback and some along the bezel and is otherwise noted in excellent condition. There is no brassing. There is a superficial scratch on the crystal around 2 o'clock. Just serviced and keeping great time.
