Don't let anyone ever tell you that an official military issue is more important than a civilian issue of this infamous watch. In fact, civilian issues were made in much fewer quantities and were often purchased for the same purpose for those that had the money to do so. Don't forget, back then and probably today, these were turned back into the military after use. You were not allowed to keep them when the battle was over. This is probably the only reason Hamilton made civilian models and I should also mention that some other professions were known to use them especially in the testing of speed on engine development. The Hamilton Model 23 Military chronograph was introduced in 1943 and produced until 1956. Among other more traditional uses of a chronograph, this watch was used in conjunction with a military Mark III Octant as a navigational tool. Here's the details: HAMILTON (Model 23 Military Pocket Chronograph) - Excellent 49mm signed Keystone base metal screw back case with screw down crystal and coin-edge bezel front and some brassing on the exact center of the case back indicating this definitely saw war and was used often; however very well cared for, signed 19 jewel Model 23 chronograph movement, adjusted to 3 positions and temperature, excellent matte black signed original dial with two "Up-Down" registers (constant seconds and minutes to 30), full Arabic numerals white spade hands and chronograph sweep seconds, onion crown and single chronograph push button. The matte black dial is original in excellent condition The signed 19 jewel chronograph movement is serviced, running, keeping time, and the chronograph function works as designed. I will say it is notable that the original movement, the dial and hands are in superior condition compared to many other examples.
