Like all 18k solid yellow gold Hamilton's, the "Kevin" is extremely rare. Hamilton only made a hand full of 18K and Platinum pieces and when found, are quickly bought by collectors. This estate piece is in excellent vintage condition, the movement has been recently services and running well and keeping time. The dial appears that is was professionally refinished; although it is very hard to tell and it may have been done during a service by Hamilton, it is in near mint condition. I do not see any signs of another layer of paint on the reverse of the dial either. So, by most indications, we would call this original / unrestored. There is further evidence by looking at the case, which has almost no wear and is in perfect condition. Everyone should remember, that when people sent watches for service which they often did, the maker (Hamilton) would refinish a dial that did not look well; I am coming to the conclusion as many other collectors and dealers are, that professional refinished dials do not devalue a watch. In fact, no price guides I know of even comment on it. Anyway, this Kevin has the preferred caliber 770 manual wind movement with 22 jewels and it is adjusted. Many watchmakers and collectors agree that the 770 was the best movement ever made by a US manufacturer. This watch came with a case which I assume is the case it was sold with. The 770 did not have serial number dating therefore I cannot tell you the exact date of this watch; however, the watch tells my it is vintage ca. 1955, the only year of the cal. 770 and the diamond shape on the dial. The main feature on the Kevin is the hinged lugs which make the watch very comfortable on the wrist. It should also be noted that the applied markers are made of 14k yellow gold. It comes on a new genuine lizard strap along with its box as should in the pictures. Most rare about this particular piece, is that there was never any personal engravings. The Kevin was marketed as a high-end presentation watch, similar to the Gordon. This is the first Kevin I see not engraved. A healthy sized tank, the Kevin is a real eye pleaser and is versatile. Looks great for any semi-formal, business, business casual or formal wear.
