Up for sale in beautiful condition is a gents vintage solid 18k yellow gold Hamilton "Gordon" model wristwatch from the 1940's. The Hamilton Gordon is one of the rarest Hamilton Watches produced; as Hamilton manufactured watches in 18k gold cases in very small numbers. The second observation which makes this particular Gordon more desirable than others, is the use of the 982 M, Hamilton's best and most expensive movement. Other later models of the Gordon did not have this movement and collectors hold out to try to find one with the 982 M. This is why you will find a great price variant in market value. The solid 18k gold Hamilton case which measures 37mm lug to lug and 22mm wide not counting the crown is in nice condition showing very light use. The Hamilton tu-tone dial looks in near perfect original condition as you can see from the pics. The Hamilton high grade 19 jewel movement is running strong and keeping good time. The watch comes with a new replacement genuine leather strap that is similar to what the original strap would be. Like many Hamiltons of the era, this is a presentation watch and has an engraving on the back. In fact, the Gordon, being the most expensive watch, was not well received by the general public and Hamilton marketed them to businesses for high end presentations. I don't believe I've ever seen one not engraved. These don't bother me since no one sees the back of the watch when wearing is. Also, engravings with detail such as this shows provenance of the piece. You can also see that the engraving is extremely fresh and give further evidence of that fact that is was rarely used if at all.

From the 1946 catalog, specifications section, speaking specifically about the Medallion movement calibres (cal. 982M & 911M):
1) "These movements have ... closer position adjustments and timing tolerances."
So, a more accurate movement than the non-medallion variants of the respective calibres.
2) In addition to the "superior damascening" & other visual treatments which have been mentioned in earlier responses, the catalog text also says "finer finishing on all parts" which I interpret as not only enhanced "visual" aspects of the movement, but (more importantly) better "fit" of the parts leading to less friction, and thus - better longevity (less wear which would negatively affect performance).
