This Omega Seamaster Chronograph watch is not common and has a cult following much like it's cousin the 176.001. This Omega Chronograph ref. 176.005 is large at 42mm and heavy. This design really reflects the culture and style of the 1970s. It is gold plated, and everything about this watch is original except for the strap - which is a dark drown replacement strap. The watch was just overhauled and the movement is working perfectly and nearly to chronometer specs. As seen in the photo's, the only issue with this watch is heavy brassing on the case between 11 and 1. That means the gold plating had worn off and your see a brass color instead. There is also some less significant brassing on the sides (please see all pictures). As an originalist, I will not have the watch re-plated as many would; however, if you wish to, it is inexpensive to do - and many of the pieces you see out there in "mint" condition have been re-plated. Instead, I will just give you an awesome deal on the watch and let you decide to leave is alone or not. Otherwise, this is a fine quality chronograph with some unique functions. Here is a quick write up about the watch from Hodinkee as cal. 176.001 (which is the same but stainless steel). Click Here for more info on the Omega Chronograph 176.005.
