When I first laid eyes on this watch, I was like...holy crap this is an awesome looking 1920s deco piece from omega.....then I started thinking wait a minute they didn't really make anything like this in the 1920s and DUH is't a De Ville which wasn't even conceived until 1967. So as I started to research more, I learned that Omega, specifically in the De Ville line, experimented with some obscure modern designs in quite small production in select areas to sort of take the temperature for these designs. I also read this great article from WatchTime on the history of the De Ville and the role that it played for the brand. "Omega launched De Ville as a separate line in 1967. It had been a collection within the Seamaster line since 1960. Simpler, younger, more colorful, and more varied than the Seamaster, it quickly became Omega’s best-selling collection. The name stood for an entire philosophy because the De Ville wasn’t created at Omega’s headquarters in industrial Bienne, but in sophisticated Geneva. The collection was intended to represent a new urban elegance. The designers had sought and found a modernistic element in wristwatch design. The collection included rectangular models containing the ultra-slim hand-wound Caliber 620. The synthesis of modernity and timelessness turned out to be just right. Omega De Ville wristwatches won six “Golden Roses” at the Baden-Baden design awards in the 1970s as well as the coveted Grand Prix Triomphe de l’Excellence Européenne. Modern editions of the Deville share this same spirit of elegance and timeless design, such as the Omega DeVille Hour Vision does."
So here we have a very rare example of a modernistic Omega De Ville from 1970 in stainless steel. The watch has never been polished, has it's original crown, hands and dial; and sports the Omega in-house caliber 620. This puts this watch in the ultra-slim category. Also I will point out that De Vills of this era were mostly in gold; very few are found in stainless steel - but this is definitely in the dress watch category. I've been through thousands of watches and hundreds of different Omega's have have never seen something like this. Just an awesome piece if you appreciate this type of design.
