From my personal collection, I’m doing a little collection purge and I’m sure I’ll regret this decision since it took me so long to find this watch. Needless to say, these are rarely seen on the secondary market as there were less than 500 watches made in the SS/silver dial combination. From 1998-1999, JLC made only a few of these “reveil” alarm watches. To me, this is poor man’s minute repeater. The sound of the alarm’s chime clarity is so different than the typical “buzz” that is associated with alarm watches. This special Memovox doesn't sound like a cricket, it sounds like a clear bell alarm. And this is a very rare dial, as the words Memovox and Reveil appear on the dial. Usually Reveil is reserved for automatics.
The styling is classic JLC – manual wind, clean, conservative, easy to read with it’s double set of minute markers, a joy to wind and to own. It is a tritium dial and the hour markers are showing a nice cream patina. The sweep seconds hand is beautifully blued. The watch comes on a lightly worn replacement high quality matte black square crocodile strap with white contrast stitching and silver tone buckle. Everything else about the watch is 100% original and in near mint condition, overhauled in 2015 and working perfectly.
Here’s the full description from JLC: Cal. 914, with nickel-finished lever movement, 18 jewels, the silvered dial with applied Arabic and dagger numerals, central revolving disc operated through crown at 2 to set alarm, sweep centre seconds, in circular case with back secured by four screws, together with a stainless steel Jaeger-leCoultre bracelet or strap, case, dial and movement signed. 36 mm. diameter. REF. 144.8.94, NO. 0362.
