Beautiful Hamilton Barrel Shape with Original Coral Dial cal. 987A Vintage | Vintage Watch
Stunning original yellow gold filled Hamilton from the 1940s. Rare coral dial with 18k white gold applied numerals and 18k white gold hands. The crown also appears original and the crystal was replaced during it's last service just recently. Hamilton began producing a movement with the Swiss Elinvar hairspring and a monometallic balance and called it the 987A. Hamilton produced the 987A for the military during World War II and continued production until 1948. The 987A was similar to the earlier 987 models, but had an Elivar Extra hairspring. The "A" was a different design, and only a few parts were interchangeable with the earlier models. Hamilton produced approximately 49,000 model 987As; mostly for military watches and very few for consumers especially with a coral dial. This watch does have an engraving on the back as seen in the pictures and comes on a new black Hadley Roma leather strap with gold tone buckle. The movement is in particularly excellent condition; the dial shows some age spots and the case is in great condition with no noted brassing or dents. From the look of the case overall, I would say this watch was not worn often. It is keeping excellent time and working as it should.
