Rare Elgin B.W. Raymond wrist watch with hack set caliber 730A with 23 jewels. This was the first wristwatch to gain Railroad approval by the US Railroad Authority, before the official FRA was formed. To insure their reliability they came in screw back cases and had iron dials for magnetic shielding. The 730A was Elgins design for a free-sprung balance. Besides the high jeweling they were adjusted in six positions. Each individual balance was poised at the factory with a special timing machine which allowed them to drill and time balance while in the watch! Very rare watch these days...running perfect and all original! This is likely Elgin's or that of any other American watch company's last greatest accomplishment being that this is Vintage 1958; the apogee of American Watch innovation. Case is stainless steel with screw back and measures 35.6mm x 42mm and comes with nice brown leather strap.
