Beautiful original Vacheron Constantin modern vintage 1990 manual wind caliber 1003 in solid 18k red gold, red gold dial, indices and hands. Comes with it's original black Vacheron Constantin alligator strap and logo 18k red gold buckle. Completely unmolested, the watch is in near mint condition and is 5x signed. We do not believe the watch has ever been serviced; however, under inspection, the legendary caliber 1003 is well maintained and is running well. Solid caseback has engraving with the words "Avec Amour" or in English, "With Love" suggesting the owner was french speaking. There may be enough information to trace provenience if one wishes to do so. This reference is the most stunning ultra-thins from the era and is in the same league if not better than the Patek Philippe Calatrava. If you've been looking for the perfect cal. 1003 ultra-thin, you will not be disappointed. At 33mm in diameter, it is the perfect gentleman's size and in my opinion is the most beautiful ultra-thin I've seen. Today, this watch is still in production as Reference: 33155/000R-958 with a retail price of $29,600 USD. This particular model is now discontinued with a last retail price of $15,500.00 USD. I recently sold the white gold version for just under $5k. This one has a much richer and warmer appeal and also comes with the box and papers; it is discounted further due to the engraving - which no one really sees anyhow. A real bargain for a heirloom watch of this quality. Also, it should be noted that these ref. 33093 are rare; very few were produced - there is tremendous upside for future appreciation in value.
The caliber 1003 was originally conceived by JLC as Cal 803 on request from Vacheron and AP. No one else, not even Jaeger-LeCoultre has used this movement. VC named it Cal 1003 and AP Cal 2003. First introduced by VC in 1955, and still the thinnest movement produced to this date at 1.64 mm high and diam 20.80 mm. The 1003 is chronometer quality and it has no shock proofing, because it's so light. It's really one of a hand full of horological accomplishments of all time. Most people don't realize that a true ultra-thin such as this, is more difficult, expensive and exclusive that most other highly complicated watches.
