Stunning Gold Filled Unisex Pocket Watch Chain for Vest Pocket ca.1890
Unique pocket watch chains and fobs are becoming in short demand these days. This is why we are thrilled to offer this unique pocket watch chain and fob. This style is handsome and may be used for a Men's or Ladiesvest two different ways; using the t-bar for a shorter length and having the fob exposed; or using the fob through a vest bottom; a jeweler may also add extension links if required for a nice custom fit. This chain and fob is completely original and has never been modified. Founded in the 1870s, the R.F.Simmons Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts was best known in the early 20th century for its watch chains—gold-filled, and of fine enough quality and workmanship that they were warranted for life. A 1904 ad explained that “Half the gold in an all gold watch chain is buried--serves no practical use--adds nothing to the chain except extra cost. Simmons watch chains are gold filled, but outwardly they are identically the same as the all gold ones.” And a 1919 ad asserted proudly that: “"Simmons chains are...gold filled--not gold 'plated' or gold 'washed'. The exterior is a heavy seamless tube of solid gold. That is why Simmons Chains, though moderate in price, have unsurpassed wear-resisting qualities." Condition: It is in overall excellent, There is no damage only light wear. Age: circa late 1800's. Specs: weighs 10.8 grams and is approx. 5" long; or 3" long using the t-bar with the fob for decoration. Speaking of the fob, it is spectacular, appears to be hand worked and is perfectly square with a fancy chain and lead design on the fob - all four sides. This is likely a piece you will never see again, especially the fob, which is easily worth the asking price alone. This is a dress chain and fob, not for utilitarian or large pocket watches, Would recommend for a Mens size 12 or 16 or any ladies pocket watch.
