SOLD - Vintage 1940's WWII Era Military Style Watch by Normandie Swiss 17 Jewels Manual Wind
This watch is a very nice example of a WWII era military style watch. Not often seen in a military piece, the original grey dial, black chapter ring and red pointer seconds makes this watch not only handsome, but unique as well. There are very few examples of vintage watches, especially military pieces by Normandie. This company was located in New York City and imported Swiss movements to make their watches. It is highly speculated that the Normandie Watch Co. was named after the famous and all too short life of the French ship, also named The Normandie; that would also explain the anchor logo connection and timeframe in which we see these watches on the market and then disappearing. This particular ship is one of historic significance, not just for the French but also for the USA when it was recommissioned for wartime use. A good accurate outline of this ship's history may be found here: The Normandie . The watch was recently serviced and runs excellent and keeping great time. It measures 32mm including the flat style crown; and is presented on a lightly worn vintage grey strap that is a match to the dial color. The only notable issue is some brassing on the reverse side of the lugs, which may be cleaned in you wish. This is a great value for those who love military style watches and would like a unique look.
