SOLD - Hampden Special Railway Pocket Watch Rare Model 3 Size 18s with 23 Jewels ca. 1923
The Hampden Model 3 was touted the "The Best Full Plate American Made Railroad Watch" and was produced in 23 jewels size 18s in small batches from 1896 through 1923 with some technical modifications along the way to make it only better, but still a full plate movement. The last serial number produced was 3,357,500; with this watch's serial number being 3,357,438; this piece would have been one of the last pieces made. The entire watch is in excellent shape and was serviced September 2018, running great and keeping excellent time. The case is its original Duber gold filled case with no dents or any other major issues noted; the movement is in pristine condition and is of very high grade, comparable to that of the highest grade Rockford or Illinois railroad watches. The dial is laid out perfectly with Breguet hands, fancy arabic numbers and red chapter ring. There are a couple of faint hairlines on the porcelain dial, one at 12 o'clock and the other around 4 o'clock; neither of which are distracting or considered a major flaw; these are faint lines.
