SOLD - Mido Multifort Official British Marines Military Issue "RM" Royal Marines WWII Dated 1941
Although there are not many of these special Mido Multifort watches that exist, none I could find available on the market, this watch has been widely misunderstood. You will find a few or more sold examples, or examples in the hands of a collector. Each one has no idea, it seems, what they have and others have sold with incorrect information, at high prices albeit. These Mido Multiforts' with "RM" on the dial as well as some other important marks on the movement and use of colors on the dial, as well at the inside caseback all validate that these were official British Marines issue watches. "RM" was used by the Royal Marines during WWII on other items. The AOC on the movement means these went from Switzerland to American imported by Heuer, Mido, Roamer (Meyer & Stüdeli) and then exported to Britain, where it appears there was a Patent. This Mido Military Multifort is a 17 jewel bumper movement and is still an early piece with a beautiful shaped case measuring 28mm w/o crown and 35mm from lug to lug. The watch is in excellent condition with all its tritium intact with a dark patina over a pitch black dial, very nice copper colored chapter ring and red sub-seconds hand. The full stainless steel case shows very little wear and has never been polished. There is a hand engraving on the back, which I believe shows the name of the marine as well as their British service number, which were always eight digits long, as is this one. The inscription reads: "C.J. (or G), Greenwald 1615 8926". This watch was serviced July 2018 and is keeping excellent time, (+5/d with 239 amplitude). The dial is all original and has the rare preferred black dial with red seconds hand and copper print. Pictures speak a thousand words, so please review well, this is an awesome piece.
