A rare bird Elgin Grade 478 pocket watch, made during war time, WWII 1944 near perfect dial and a less seen real salesman example; ball regulator
Here is one rare bird as part of the famous Elgin B.W. Raymond railroad watches; the watch features A stunning full 12 / 24 hour on the double sunk dial; as well as a two time zone feature. Combine this with the fact that it is a salesman sale and the 21 jeweled beauty makes for a uniqueness in feature combination, along with its scarcity, makes this watch worth taking a serious look at. This size 16s railroad watch runs great, was serviced during our intake process), and it should be noted that the dial is rare and in near perfect condition, nu cracks or hairlines have been noted. No dial or case repairs have been noted. The case of the watch is the original yellow gold filled case, there is only brassing in tiny areas, this would be considering not having brassing by most dealers; however, I found a couple spots. Overall, this piece is in its excellent original condition and have been well cared for, noted by my watchmaker and I've also heard the pieces out of this estates' watches were serviced every 5 years like clockwork. Please look over the pictures, they tell a lot, of the beauty of the watch, much more than I am able to describe. The case is free of personal engravings and each side screws down. Many railroad watches produced in or around WWII were mostly used in the war; and as all railroad watches, this is a lever set watch. With its nice high jewel count of 21 this pocket watch is perfect for something meaningful and significant as s gift, but also a great investment or collectors piece. Once in a while, there has been some very nice finds through the year, this happens to be be of them. There were only 1500 in this run; I believe the 2nd time zone is an strong indication that this watch was made for and went to the Canadian Market because the government ordered many pocket watches usually with two time zones during wartime as General Service Watches. Nonetheless, it nicely outperforms as a high grade railroad watch.
