Stunning Hardwood (Appears to be Black Walnut) Hand Crafted Candle Stick Holder Early American
This is a fantastic handmade candle stick holder that is wide in the back and tapers smaller toward the front; in order to accommodate different lengths of candle sticks. This is made of a hard wood, it doesn't appear to be oak, it looks more like black walnut, which was a widely used wood at the time. This must have been a very difficult piece to make dur to the tapering toward the front and the angle created. Likely made by a master, the dovetail work is almost perfect. The lid is hinged; which gives away its approximate age to pre-civil war, as seen, there is decorative cut out work on the back, front and both sides. A very rare find.
