Well, here is something you probably won't find again, a complete package from the 1970s of the Wakmann (Breitling) Triple Calendar Chronograph with its original box, papers and metal bracelet. Many people; even collectors say huh? Breitling? Here is the story behind the connection and all the triple dates chronographs came from Breitling in Switzerland.
As an importer and manufacturer of high quality timepieces, Wakmann Watch Company was founded in New York in 1946, and became known as experts in the world of chronographs and multipurpose timekeeping. At the time, the US had increased duties on imported Swiss watches, which opened the door for Wakmann to partner up with Breitling. Wakmann would receive a batch of nearly complete watches from Switzerland, which would then undergo final assembly before being sold under the Wakmann name. Beyond “re-branded” watches, Wakmann also supplied timekeeping devices for the Armed Forces, U.S. Government, commercial airlines, and radio/television studios as part of their Breitling relationship. Later the company would be purchased by Breitling and absorbed into the larger and more successful umbrella.
This watch was recently overhauled and is working perfectly. The only known issue is that the seconds counter does not reset at exactly zero every time. This is a simple adjustment if wanted; although the watch is working so well I wouldn't touch it until a next scheduled overhaul. It has its original crown and pushers, original dial and hands and original case finish in near mint condition. If I had to guess; I would say this watch was purchased and almost never worn - or was worn by a person using extreme caution.
The Valjoux 72 and it's variations, as many know, is crowned the best column wheel chronograph ever produced by many collectors and experts. This particular piece is executed using the Valjoux 72c with the high end finish gold gilded. In fact, Rolex chose the regular Valjoux 72 with little modification as their crowned jewel chronograph caliber for the Daytona. This watch, has a beautiful panda dial with even patina, and unlike the Daytona of the same period, won't require a second mortgage. This watch comes on a canvas strap that awesomely highlights the colors under the crystal; in addition, the watch comes with the original expandable metal bracelet. Inside the booklet and warranty, the original wax paper envelope containing the original date setting tool is also present. This will go fast once found by the right person - so please, if that person is you I would not hesitate because there are many out there that would like this watch. Papers are dated Dec 1973.
